Assuming that you got #3 correct, you can simply explain that your classmate is a dope-a-potamous. The book says that your classmate ignored the coefficient of 2 in the x-coordinate.

DeleteFor #6-8.. I'm not that sure how to figure out the coordinates of T & W on #10! I know that W's x coordinate would be b+something and that the y coordinate would be 0.. And that T's x coordinate would also be b+another something and that the y would be a.. But I'm really not sure how to find those!

Delete^ Same as above.. Also having trouble on #12.. (Am I supposed to come up with my own variables??) I can't figure out the x coordinates for T or W! It can't be "a" because it's not perpendicular to T or Z and I have no idea how I'm supposed to figure this out..
ReplyDeleteYup, since it's isos centered at the origin, SZ is 2a and you can "make up" TW to be 2b.
Delete2b or not 2b, THAT is the question! (it's late... sorry)
If you can make a segment length to be 2b, is that the same as (to be)^2??
I just can't figure out what to do on parallelograms (just.. regular ones!) or trapezoids! #17 is stumping me because I ALWAYS know the y coordinate (in this case, b) but I don't know how to find the x-coordinate!!
ReplyDeleteI sometimes find it easy to supply friendly integers (I never met an integer I didn't like). If a=3 and c=16 (the isos trap is the key) how would you get the x-coordinate???

Now, convert to the variable expression: c-a is the x-coordinate of Point P, yes?

DeleteFor #22 on #6-8 (This is just a comprehension question!!) why does it only ask you to find the coordinates of W and Z but then in the diagram also asks you to find the midpoint of segment WZ?
ReplyDeleteNo, you don't have to find the coordinates of the midpoint of WZ, just W and Z.
DeleteIn part d, they are asking which of the three diagrams would be easier to find the midpoint of WZ... since the midpoint formula involves division by 2, it should be obvious which of the three diagrams would be easier to work with.

ReplyDeleteI just remembered that (a*b)^2=(a^2)(b^2) but (a+b)^2 does not equal (a^2+b^2)... So I'm stuck on #4 on #6-9 with sqrt[(b+a)^2+c^2] and I have no idea where to go from there!
